Retail Apocalypse

4,500 retail store closures
have been announced in the
first several months of this year.

Last week Tesla announced
it would be closing most of its
US showrooms.

In a recent 48-hour period,
major chains such as
Gap, JC Penney, Victoria's Secret
and Foot Locker have all announced
they will be closing a total of more
than 465 stores.

Gap, JC Penney and Victoria's Secret
reported significant declines in
same-store sales, while Foot Locker
had modest growth.

Yet Foot Locker announced 165
store closures across the country.

One day earlier Gap had announced
230 store closures over the
next several years.

JC Penney announced 18 more
department store closures
( out of about 850 stores )
this year, including the three
closed in January 2019.

Yesterday I heard that
Family Dollar stores,
owned by Dollar Tree,
was going to close
390 of their 15,000 stores
in the US.
