Week 10 of the record unemployment spike

Additions to the charts above:

We need to add
unemployed
gig workers
 (self employed
"ontractors").

They are NOT
eligible to file
under state
programs,
so they are
not included
in the charts
above.

But gig workers
are now eligible
to file under the new
federal unemployment
insurance program
Pandemic
Unemployment
Assistance
    ( PUA ).

1.19 million
gig workers
(not seasonally
adjusted) filed for
PUA unemployment
for the latest week,
ending May 23, 2020.

For earlier
PUA claims
through
the week
ended May 9,
who are still
not working,
the total is
7.8 million
unemployed,
also not shown
in the charts
above.

Over one dozen states,
including Florida,
have not yet started
processing PUA claims.

So there should be
large catch-up numbers
in the future, reflecting
gig workers who lost
their jobs in late March
or April.
