US June Rail Traffic = economy improving

Rail Traffic for June 2020, 
from the Association of 
American Railroads:

June 2020:
1,004,933 
containers 
and trailers 
(intermodal units)
down 6.6% 
from June 2019.

  Note:
Motor vehicles 
& parts 
down 30.3%


May 2020:
Intermodal units
down 13%, 
from May 2019.

  Note:
Motor vehicles 
& parts 
down 75%



January through June 2020:
Total intermodal units
down 10.6% from 2019.

January through May 2020:
Total intermodal units, 
down 11.3% from 2019.



For June 2020,
 AAR Senior Vice President
 John T. Gray said 
"Additionally, the reopening 
of automotive plants that began 
in early June has regrown 
that business from as little as
 2,000 weekly loads to over 
13,000 by the end of the month."

" ... leading the 
way upward was the 
intermodal business 
which, over the 
last two months, 
grew to match volumes 
last seen around 
the first of February."
