Employment Data for September 2022

Payroll employment raw data not seasonally adjusted:

Net employment increase of +431, 000 jobs
Included in the +431,000 is an increase of about one million teachers and education administrators. But also a decline of (448,000) private sector jobs. Bottom line: All jobs outside of the education category fell by about (600,000).

These numbers don't mean much unless compared with September 2021

September 2021 had +704,000 more jobs

Summary: September 2021 was much better than September 2022


The labor force participation rate, which has not returned to pre-Covid pandemic levels, actually declined in September 2022. Moving slightly lower from 62.4% in August to 62.3% in September.  More bad news:
